I received an unexpectedly warm response to my original Terrace Theater story. My inbox was filled with support and stories, people who wanted to share their grief over the loss of this movie palace. It was a gush of nostalgia that encouraged me to head back to the site of the crumbling theater, yet I completely forgot to post the pictures from the trip. Wow. Great spread. I have great memories of the Terrace – saw Snowball Express there when I was four or five. I grew up way out in Mound so it was a rare treat to see a movie at the Terrace or the Cooper.

I haven’t seen the Terrace theater in years. I thought it was still in operation…how wrong i was. I have a lot of memories in that area growing up, lived on the North Side in my childhood. My dad and I would go down to the arcade in the strip mall back in the 80’s and play spyhunter, what a great game. The last time I went there must have been in 1995 to see Tales from the Hood, lol. My father and I went there to go see it…I remember even back in the mid-90’s it had already fallen into pretty bad shape. I really wish I could go back to those days sometimes. It actually physically hurts me to see how the theater has been left to fade away like that. Think about all the memories people have – that’s more than just a building, it’s a living piece of history to many of us, like a ghost it’ll someday disappear forever. Attachment is what makes life the hardest, as its never easy to let go of the things that remind us of better days.
