
When “Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday” opened in 1993, not a lot of people cared. The picture, while made for very little money, didn’t light up the box office, and fans of the “Friday the 13th” series generally rejected an attempt to take Jason out of the franchise. The purpose of “Hearts of Darkness: The Making of ‘The Final Friday’” is to restore the endeavor’s reputation, with producer Adam Marcus aiding in the construction of a documentary that celebrates how creative Adam Marcus is. Director Michael Felsher embarks on a mission to detail the construction of the 1993 release, leading with Marcus’s immersion in the world of film production at such a young age, tasked with pulling the “Friday the 13th” brand out of a financial tailspin.
