
1994’s “Bugie Rosse” looks to join the erotic thriller gold rush of the decade. However, instead of making another “Basic Instinct,” writer/director Pierfrancesco Campanella is out to generate another “Cruising,” taking viewers into a world of obsession, temptation, and murder involving a journalist and the exploration of his own sexuality. “Bugie Rosse” has plenty of heated encounters, and a few disturbing ones too, but Campanella comes up short when it comes to suspense in the picture. Thrills and chills aren’t found in the offering, finding the helmer laboring to find his way through an uninspired screenplay, unsure what he really wants from an endeavor that’s tonally all over the place.
